Inside The Diamonds 2024 Awards

The 2024 season has come to an end and the Los Angeles Dodgers have won the World Series as they beat the New York Yankees in five games. This season was a good one with a lot of great storylines, we also saw four no-hitters one was a combined no-hitter which was done by the Chicago Cubs, Blake Snell, Dylan Cease, and Ronel Blanco each threw one as well. We also had a pitcher from the American League and a pitcher from the National League take home Triple Crown awards with Tarik Skubal taking it home in the AL and Chris Sale in the NL. Now for the second annual Inside The Diamonds Awards winners.

AL MVP: Aaron Judge – New York Yankees

Judge had a historical season as he finished hitting .322 with a 1.159 OPS; he had 36 doubles, one triple, 58 home runs, 144 RBI, and 133 walks. He led the American League in OPS, home runs, RBI, and walks.

NL MVP: Shohei Ohtani – Los Angeles Dodgers

Ohtani did something this season we’ve never seen before as he had the first ever 50/50 season with 54 home runs and 59 stolen bases. He finished the season hitting .310 with a 1.036 OPS; he had 38 doubles, seven triples, 54 home runs, 130 RBI, 134 runs scored, 59 stolen bases, and 81 walks. He just missed winning the triple crown as the league leader in batting average hit .314, he led the National League in OPS, home runs, RBI, and runs scored.

AL Cy Young: Tarik SkubalDetroit Tigers

Skubal dominated this season making 31 starts going 18-4 with a 2.39 ERA, a 2.50 FIP, a 0.92 WHIP, and 228 strikeouts in 192 innings pitched. He led the American League in ERA, strikeouts, and wins which led to his triple crown, he also finished in second in WHIP and fifth in innings pitched.

NL Cy Young: Chris Sale – Atlanta Braves

Sale dominated in his first season in the National League making 29 starts going 18-3 with a 2.38 ERA, a 2.09 FIP, a 1.01 WHIP, and 225 strikeouts in 177.2 innings. He led the National League in wins, ERA, and strikeouts, he also finished second in WHIP.

AL Rookie of the Year: Colton CowserBaltimore Orioles

Cowser narrowly edges out Luis Gil, as Cowser finished the season hitting .242 with a .768 OPS; he had 24 doubles, three triples, 24 home runs, 69 RBI, 77 runs scored, nine stolen bases, and 52 walks. He led all qualified rookies in home runs and finished third in doubles, and in RBI.

NL Rookie of the Year: Paul SkenesPittsburgh Pirates

You could go either way here it’s a coin flip between Skenes and Jackson Merrill but Skenes dominated making 23 starts and going 11-3 with a 1.96 ERA, a 2.45 FIP, a 0.95 WHIP, and 170 strikeouts in 133 innings. He led all qualified rookies in ERA, and WHIP and finished second in strikeouts to Shota Imanaga who made six more starts than him, and he finished fifth in innings pitched for rookies.

AL Manager of the Year: AJ HinchDetroit Tigers

Any of the American League Central managers can be discussed here but what AJ Hinch did following the trade deadline and what he put together to get the Tigers in the playoffs when they were all but out of it heading into August. He got the Tigers back to the postseason for the first time since 2014. He also did all of this with one starting pitcher in his rotation and he made it work to secure the final Wild Card spot.

NL Manager of the Year: Carlos Mendoza – New York Mets

Mendoza got the Mets back to the playoffs on the last day of the season with a win in the first game of the doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves. People doubted the Mets all season and Mendoza pieced things together that got them back to the postseason.
