The Boston Red Sox started their three-game series against the Blue Jays with a 5-0 win tonight as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Ranger Suarez and Greg Weissert each pitched for Boston in the game. Weissert pitched the ninth and induced a pop-up from Ernie Clement to get the last out. Suarez made his sixth start as a member of the Red Sox and struck out a season-high ten batters. The lefty also allowed one hit and zero runs over eight innings while walking one.

A single by Marcelo Mayer put the Red Sox on the board at the top of the fourth. Boston scored one run in the top of the eighth on a solo home run to left field by Carlos Narváez on the sixth pitch of the at-bat.
Dylan Cease took the loss for Toronto. The right-handed pitcher went five and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking three. Weissert allowed a double, but that’s all in relief.

The Red Sox finished with nine hits in the game. Mayer and Wilyer Abreu each collected two hits for the Red Sox, and each drove in a run.
