Game Recap: Red Sox Ace Struggles

The Boston Red Sox started their three-game series in Minnesota with a loss to the Twins 13-6 tonight, thanks in part to a seven-run inning in the second inning. Minnesota got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Luke Keaschall doubled, scoring one run, Ryan Jeffers singled, scoring one run, and Brooks Lee singled, scoring two runs. The Twins scored seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the second inning. Jeffers singled, scoring one run; Josh Bell doubled, scoring two runs; Victor Caratini homered to left field, scoring three runs, and Ryan Kreidler hit a solo home run to left field.

The Red Sox made the score 11-3 in the top of the third inning when Caleb Durbin doubled, scoring one run, and Jarren Duran hit a two-run home run. Bailey Ober earned the win for the Twins. The righty gave up seven hits and four runs over six innings, striking out seven and walking one. Garrett Crochet took the loss for the Red Sox. The southpaw went one and two-thirds innings, surrendering 11 runs, ten earned, on nine hits. He didn’t record a strikeout and walked one as Minnesota appeared locked in on him.

The Red Sox had ten hits in the game. Duran provided pop in the middle of the lineup and led the Red Sox with two RBI. The outfielder went 1-for-5 on the day. Durbin and Wilyer Abreu each had two hits for the Red Sox. The Twins had 11 hits in the game. Jeffers led the Twins with three hits in four at-bats. Byron Buxton collected two hits for the Twins in five at-bats.

Player of the Game:

Ryan Jeffers went 3-4 in the game with three RBI, three runs scored, and a walk. One of his three hits was a solo home run in the fifth inning.
