Eastern League July Recap

The Eastern League is hitting the home stretch of their season. Two new teams lead their division in the second half looking to claim their spot in the playoffs. The Erie Seawolves and the Hartford Yard Goats claimed spots by winning the first half, now the Portland Sea Dogs and the Akron RubberDucks are hoping to keep the lead they built in July to claim their spot.

The Top Prospects

6.) SS – Marcelo Mayer – Portland Sea Dogs

Mayer in July hit .303, and a .846 OPS; he had three doubles, one home run, two RBI, six runs scored, and three walks. This season he is hitting .307 with a .850 OPS; he has eight home runs, 38 RBI, 60 runs scored, and 13 stolen bases.

7.) C – Samuel Basallo – Bowie Baysox

Basallo in July hit .226 with a .688 OPS; he had two doubles, two home runs, six RBI, six runs scored, and ten walks. This season he is hitting .270 with a .778 OPS; he has 13 home runs, 40 RBI, 45 runs scored, and seven stolen bases.

11.) RHP – Jackson Jobe – Erie SeaWolves

Jobe is July returned to Erie making four starts going 2-0 with a 0.83 ERA, a 0.97 WHIP, and 26 strikeouts in 21.2 innings; he also was part of a combined no-hitter for the SeaWolves. This season at Erie he’s made nine starts going 2-1 with a 1.41 ERA, a 0.99 WHIP, and 50 strikeouts in 38.1 innings.

14.) OF – Roman Anthony – Portland Sea Dogs

Anthony in July hit .284 with a .929 OPS; he had three doubles, a triple, five home runs, 13 RBI, 13 runs scored, seven walks, and seven stolen bases. This season he is hitting .254 with a .833 OPS; he has 13 home runs, 37 RBI, 48 runs scored, and 13 stolen bases.

17.) RHP – Andrew Painter – Reading Fightin Phils

Painter is done for the season recovering from Tommy John.

18.) OF – Chase DeLauter – Akron RubberDucks

DeLauter returned to Akron for three games to end the month going 3-12 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run scored. This season at Double-A he is hitting .203 with a .605 OPS; he has five doubles, a home run, five RBI, ten runs scored, ten walks, and a stolen base.  

26.) C – Kyle Teel – Portland Sea Dogs

Teel last month hit .266 with a .739 OPS; he had four doubles, one home run, six RBI, ten runs scored, 11 walks, and two stolen bases. This season he is hitting .295 with an .833 OPS; he has nine home runs, 54 RBI, 59 runs scored, and seven stolen bases.

30.) SS/OF – Jett Williams – Binghamton Rumble Ponies

Williams is currently on the 7-day injured list and hasn’t played since April 21st. This season he is hitting .179 with a .668 OPS; he has two RBI, nine runs scored, and two stolen bases.

45.) RHP – Bubba Chandler – Altoona Curve

Chandler made four appearances with three of those coming as starts in July going 1-2 with a 3.26 ERA, a 0.83 WHIP, and 19 strikeouts in 19.1 innings. This season he is 5-7 with a 3.93 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP, and 87 strikeouts in 73.1 innings.

52.) 2B – Adael Amador – Hartford Yard Goats

Amador in July hit .227 with a .708 OPS; he had four doubles, two home runs, seven RBI, nine runs scored, 14 walks, and four stolen bases. This season he is hitting .204 with a .679 OPS; he has six doubles, nine home runs, 31 RBI, 40 runs scored, 47 walks, and 26 stolen bases.

57.) OF – Yanquiel Fernandez – Hartford Yard Goats

Fernandez in July hit .310 with a .834 OPS; he had four doubles, three home runs, eight RBI, 13 runs scored, and seven walks. This season he is hitting .279 with a .758 OPS; he has nine home runs, 45 RBI, 38 runs scored, and a stolen base.

62.) LHP – Justin Crawford – Reading Fightin Phils

Crawford got promoted to Double-A this month appearing in nine games and hitting .351 with a .874 OPS; he had four doubles, four RBI, five runs scored, three walks, and five stolen bases.

68.) OF – Spencer Jones – Somerset Patriots

Jones last month hit .203 with a .689 OPS; he had four doubles, one triple, three home runs, nine RBI, nine runs scored, ten walks, and four stolen bases. This season he is hitting .240 with a .735 OPS; he has 12 home runs, 54 RBI, 51 runs scored, and 21 stolen bases.

73.) RHP – Chase Hampton – Somerset Patriots

Hampton is back with Double-A now but didn’t make a start in July.

81.) OF/1B – Ryan Clifford – Binghamton Rumble Ponies

Clifford last month hit .277 with a .518 OPS; he had eight doubles, four home runs, 13 RBI, 15 runs scored, ten walks, and one stolen base. This season he is hitting .218 with a .803 OPS; he has 14 home runs, 46 RBI, 52 runs scored, and three stolen bases.

85.) OF – Zac Veen – Hartford Yard Goats

Veen in July played in eight games going 3-32 with a double, two RBI, three runs scored, three walks, and a stolen base. This season at Double-A he is hitting .268 with a .816 OPS; he has five doubles, two triples, five home runs, 14 RBI, 24 runs scored, 16 walks, and ten stolen bases.

94.) RHP – Brandon Sproat – Binghamton Rumble Ponies

Sproat in July made three starts going 1-1 with a 4.60 ERA, a 0.96 WHIP, and 21 strikeouts in 15.2 innings. This season in 16 appearances with 15 starts he is 6-2 with a 2.18 ERA, a 0.97 WHIP, and 97 strikeouts in 82.2 innings.

98.) OF/2B – Sterlin Thompson – Hartford Yard Goats

Thompson last month hit .267 with a .818 OPS; he had two doubles, one triple, three home runs, eight RBI, 12 runs scored, 11 walks, and four stolen bases. This season he is hitting .2440 with a .701 OPS; he has nine home runs, 33 RBI, 51 runs scored, and ten stolen bases.

HM.) OF – Daylen Lile – Harrisburg Senators

Lile in July hit .263 with a .731 OPS; he had five doubles, one home run, three RBI, ten runs scored, 11 walks, and four stolen bases. This season at Double-A he is hitting .252 with a .693 OPS; he has eight doubles, one home run, five RBI, 13 runs scored, 17 walks, and four stolen bases.

HM.) OF – Wade Meckler – Richmond Flying Squirrels

Meckler made his Double-A debut in July hitting .324 with a .783 OPS; he had two doubles, two RBI, six runs scored, and five walks.

HM.) LHP – Adam Macko – New Hampshire Fisher Cats

Macko is on the 7-day injured list. He made one start in July suffering the loss in six innings giving up three runs on six hits; he walked two and struck out three. This season in 15 starts he is 5-4 with a 4.42 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP, and 86 strikeouts in 77.1 innings.
