Detroit Tigers Notebook: Back in the Win Column, Tigers Claim a Reliever off Waivers, Framber Today, and More

The Detroit Tigers picked up a win tonight to snap a three-game skid; they improved to 35-47. They’re eight games back of the Cleveland Guardians for the American League Central. They’re five games back for the final spot in the American League wild card standings.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the third as Dillon Dingler struck out, but James Outman scored on a throwing error. Kerry Carpenter added to that with a two-run home run. In the fourth, Colt Keith hit a solo home run, then James Outman hit a three-run home run, and Dingler singled home a run to make it 8-0 which was the final.

Keider Montero once again had a stellar outing. Enmanuel De Jesus went two scoreless innings in relief to close the door. He walked one and struck out two.

Montero went seven scoreless innings. He allowed five hits, walked one, and struck out three in the win.

Montero continued to impress. He’s 4-5 with a 3.39 ERA, a 0.99 WHIP, and 56 strikeouts in 87.2 innings.

Tigers claim pitcher Yilber Diaz off waivers from Arizona. In one appearance with the Diamondbacks, he allowed seven runs on seven hits. He walked one and didn’t record a strikeout in 0.2 innings. In 26 minor league appearances this season, he went 3-3 with a 4.50 ERA, a 1.65 WHIP, and 43 strikeouts in 32 innings.

Framber Valdez gets the ball tomorrow against his former team. He’s 4-5 with a 3.91 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, and 75 strikeouts in 89.2 innings. In his first start against his former team, he went six innings. He allowed a run, unearned, on six hits, walked three, and struck out six.
