The Detroit Tigers are 19-25 after being swept by the New York Mets. They trail the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the American League Central by 4.5 games. They’re 2.5 games back of the Texas Rangers for the final wild card spot in the American League.

Detroit jumped out to an early lead thanks to a three-run home run by Gage Workman. The Mets would score a run in every inning from the third on; they scored two in the fourth and three in the fifth. New York used the long ball, hitting five home runs, which accounted for eight of their nine runs. The Tigers got a run back in the eighth as Dillon Dingler hit his team-leading eighth of the season. Keider Montero got the start for Detroit, going 4.2 innings, allowing four runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out two.
