MLB Game Recap
The Cincinnati Reds fell 8-3. Starter Chris Paddack struggled to find his rhythm. He allowed four earned runs on seven hits and three walks. He completed five innings without a strikeout. Solo home runs from JJ Bleday and Nathaniel Lowe briefly brought the score to 4-2. However, the game slipped away in the sixth. The Braves tagged the bullpen for four runs. The turning point came when reliever Yunior Marte made his Reds debut. He allowed four runs, which allowed Atlanta to break the contest open.
Standout Performer
Sal Stewart was a bright spot in the loss, finishing 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. He delivered a crucial two-out RBI single in the fifth inning. This hit scored TJ Friedl and reduced the deficit to 4-3. Stewart’s multi-hit performance accounted for nearly a third of the team’s total hits. He continues to provide stability at the hot corner.

Farm Report
- AAA (Louisville Bats): Michael Toglia went 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs in an 11-7 win over St. Paul. Toglia’s power display helped the Bats overcome a back-and-forth affair that included an inside-the-park home run by Edwin Arroyo.
- AA (Chattanooga Lookouts): Game was postponed
- High-A (Dayton Dragons): Alfredo Duno finished 1-for-3. He hit a two-run home run and had a stolen base in a 7-3 loss to Great Lakes. Duno’s tenth homer of the season was a significant part of the Dragons’ offense. The pitching staff struggled with control by issuing five walks.
- Low-A (Daytona Tortugas): Anielson Buten recorded a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with an RBI in a 7-1 loss to Tampa. The Tortugas managed only five hits total in the first game of a doubleheader. The second game was postponed due to rain.
- ACL Reds: Redona earned the win after tossing 6.0 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and no walks in a 5-2 victory over the ACL Athletics. The dominant start lowered his ERA to 1.86 and anchored a clean defensive performance by the rookie squad.
Deep Dive: Edwin Arroyo’s “Sneaky Power” Breakout
At just 22 years old, Edwin Arroyo is becoming a standout prospect in the Cincinnati system. He overcame a major setback to dominate Triple-A pitching. Arroyo missed the entire 2024 season due to a torn labrum in his left shoulder. He returned with a vengeance in 2025. He has carried that momentum into a historic May for the Louisville Bats.
Arroyo’s performance this month has placed him at the top of the International League leaderboards. He leads in hits (65), total bases (113), and triples (5). In May alone, he has posted a .348 average with 10 home runs and 33 RBIs. This showcases what manager Pat Kelly describes as “sneaky power.” Arroyo is primarily known for his elite defensive skills at shortstop. His switch-hitting ability further highlights his versatility. He has been dominant from the left side with a .379 average and eight homers. He remains productive right-handed as well.
The young infielder credits much of his development to his father. He coached him on using his ambidextrous abilities from a young age. Arroyo hit an inside-the-park home run on Friday. He continues to push for a major league call-up. Arroyo maintains a mindset focused on being ready to “never come back” once he reaches Cincinnati.
Looking Ahead
The Reds continue their series against the Braves tonight at 7:15 PM ET, with the game broadcast nationally on FOX. Brady Singer (2-4, 6.26 ERA) takes the mound for Cincinnati, looking to snap the team’s two-game skid against Atlanta’s Martín Pérez (2-3, 2.70 ERA).
The rotation needs a quality start to save a taxed bullpen. What do you think?
