MLB Game Recap

The Reds surrendered a season-high six home runs in a 10-3 series-ending loss to Cleveland on Sunday. Starting pitcher Brady Singer (2-4) struggled over 4.0 innings, allowing 5 earned runs on 7 hits with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk on 86 pitches. The bullpen combined to allow 5 additional runs. A fourth-inning rally was thwarted when Sal Stewart was picked off second base.

Standout Performer

Elly De La Cruz provided the offensive highlight, going 2-for-5 with a solo home run, his 11th of the season. His opposite-field blast in the third inning brought the Reds within one run. However, the team could not overcome Cleveland’s persistent power surge.

Key News & Notes

The Reds made several roster moves on Sunday. They designated outfielder Rece Hinds for assignment. This move created room for catcher P.J. Higgins, whose contract was selected from Triple-A. Catcher Jose Trevino was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring injury. The team recalled Jose Franco. Luis Mey was optioned to Louisville. Manager Terry Francona remarked that he hoped Hinds would receive a better opportunity elsewhere. Hinds struggled with a high strikeout rate in the majors.

Looking Ahead

The Reds travel to Philadelphia tonight to begin a three-game series against the Phillies. Nick Lodolo (0-1, 8.68 ERA) takes the mound for Cincinnati against Andrew Painter (1-4, 6.21 ERA).

The bullpen surrendered runs in eight consecutive innings during the Cleveland series. The Reds desperately need a deep quality start from Lodolo. This will help reset the staff.
