MLB Game Recap

The Rockies snapped a four-game losing streak by defeating the Cubs 7-3 at Coors Field on Tuesday night. Hunter Goodman set the tone. He hit a two-run home run in the first inning off Cubs starter Colin Rea. Colin Rea struggled through 4.2 innings while allowing a season-high seven runs. Chicago tried to rally late with solo home runs from Michael Busch. Alex Bregman contributed an RBI sacrifice fly. However, the offense finished 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

Standout Performer

Michael Busch: 1-for-3, 1 HR (7), 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB. Busch’s impact was significant in the sixth inning. He launched a 424-foot solo home run to right-center field. This provided one of the few bright spots in a game where the Cubs’ lineup struggled to capitalize on opportunities.

Key News & Notes

The Cubs placed right-hander Jameson Taillon on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to June 8). He has a left hamstring strain that is expected to keep him out past the All-Star break. To address the roster, the team activated Matt Shaw from the injured list. They also recalled relievers Tyler Ferguson and Ethan Roberts from Triple-A Iowa. Additionally, Trent Thornton was placed on the paternity list, and outfielder Kevin Alcántara was optioned back to Iowa.

Farm Report

  • Iowa Cubs (AAA): BJ Murray; 2-for-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 R; Won 10-2 vs. Louisville. Murray’s two-run homer in the first inning ignited a dominant 12-hit performance by the I-Cubs.
  • Knoxville Smokies (AA): Owen Ayers; 2-for-4, 1 HR, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 R; Lost 6-5 to Montgomery. Ayers was a major contributor to the Smokies’ power. He recorded his 10th home run of the season in the fourth inning.
  • South Bend Cubs (High-A): Kane Kepley; 2-for-2, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 3 BB, 1 SB; Won 6-3 vs. Peoria. Kepley reached base in all five plate appearances. He hit a three-run home run. This helped South Bend reduce its magic number to clinch the first-half division title to four.
  • Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Low-A): Geuri Lubo; 1-for-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 R; Lost 5-2 to Augusta. Lubo’s solo home run in the seventh inning provided the primary offensive highlight in the Pelicans’ loss.
  • ACL Cubs (Rookie): Jairo Silva; 2-for-2, 1 2B, 2 R, 1 SB, 2 HBP; Won 5-4 vs. ACL White Sox. Silva reached base four times and scored twice as the Cubs edged their cross-town rivals in the desert.

Looking Ahead

The Cubs continue their series in Colorado on Wednesday night, sending left-hander Shota Imanaga (4-6, 4.74 ERA) to the mound against Rockies right-hander Michael Lorenzen (2-8, 8.01 ERA).

Jameson Taillon is out long-term. The rotation already leads MLB in home runs surrendered. The Cubs desperately need a stabilizing performance from Imanaga. They need this to prevent another series loss. What do you think?
