The Boston Red Sox had been rumored all season with the log jam they have in the outfield to be looking to move one if not two of them, and this evening, they did by trading Alex Verdugo to their rivals, the New York Yankees, in exchange for RHP’s Richard Fitts, Greg Weissert, and Nicholas Judice.
Red Sox/Yankees Trades By The Numbers
Alex Verdugo
Verdugo was acquired in the Mookie Betts trade, and during his Red Sox tenure, he slashed .281/.338/.424 with a .761 OPS; he had 124 doubles, eight triples, 43 home runs, 206 RBI, 280 runs scored, 16 stolen bases, and 155 walks. In 2023, he slashed .264/.324/.421 with a .745 OPS; he had 37 doubles, five triples, 13 home runs, 54 RBI, 81 runs scored, five stolen bases, and 45 walks. His numbers tapered off in the second half of the season.
Richard Fitts
Fitts in 2023 pitched at Double-A Somerset and made 27 starts, going 11-5 with a 3.48 ERA, a 1.14 WHIP, a 1.3 HR/9, a 2.5 BB/9, and a 9.6 K/9.
Greg Weissert
Weissert had made 19 appearances in the big leagues out of the bullpen, going 3-0 with a 4.60 ERA, a 4.29 FIP, a 1.27 WHIP, a 1.1 HR/9, a 3.7 BB/9, and a 9.5 K/9. In 2023, he appeared in 17 games, going 0-0 with a 4.05 ERA, a 4.36 FIP, a 1.45 WHIP, a 1.4 HR/9, a 3.6 BB/9, and a 9.9 K/9. In Triple-A, he went 5-3 in 38 with a 2.90 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP, a 1.1 HR/9, a 3.8 BB/9, and a 12.9 K/9.
Nicholas Judice
The Yankees drafted Judice in the eighth round of the 2023 draft. He played for Louisiana-Monroe in the NCAA in 2023, going 3-3 with a 3.74 ERA in 21 games; he posted a 1.13 WHIP, a 1.5 HR/9, a 2.5 BB/9, and an 11.2 K/9.
I dunno. I believe this is a mistake going forward.
