Boston Red Sox Spring Breakout Recap

Boston Red Sox Pipeline

The Boston Red Sox top prospects took on the Atlanta Braves top prospects today. All four of the Red Sox Top 100 prospects by ITD played in the game today. The future of the Red Sox was certainly on display with the names of Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony, Kyle Teel, and Ceddane Rafaela

The Game

Wikelman Gonzalez who is the Red Sox seventh overall prospect got the start for the Red Sox going three innings he struck out one and walked three. He had effective stuff and if he can limit those walks he’ll be a great pitcher.

The Red Sox scored first in the second inning. Miguel Bleis walked and stole second as he was later driven in by Nick Yorke on a single.

The Red Sox would score again in the Bottom of the Third. It all started with a Chase Meidroth single and then Roman Anthony drew a walk, two batters later Kyle Teel hit a double that scored Meidroth. Then Ceddanne Rafaela would bring Teel and Anthony home with a three-run home run to make it 5-0 Red Sox Prospects.

The Red Sox would score in the Bottom of the Fourth starting with a Nick Yorke double, he would be pinch ran for by Eddinson Paulino who stole third base and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Meidroth.

Richard Fitts who the Red Sox acquired in the Alex Verdugo trade and is now ranked as the Red Sox eighth overall prospect would pitch the fourth, fifth, and sixth. He struggled in his first inning giving up two runs on two hits, and walked one. His next two innings went much better record no hits, no runs, no walks, and three strikeouts.

The Red Sox were back at it in the fifth as they scored again. It started with a single by Kristian Campbell then a walk by Nathan Hickey. Campbell would be driven in by a single from Allan Castro to make it 7-2 Red Sox.

Luis Guerrero got the final inning on the mound for the Red Sox and he gave up a hit, walked one, and struck out one.

Red Sox Three Stars

Ceddanne Rafaela

Rafaela is the Red Sox fourth-ranked prospect by ITD and is just proving his case to be the Red Sox Opening Day Centerfielder. He went 1-3 with that three-run home run. In the field, he turned a nice double play making a catch and doubling off a runner at second base.

Kyle Teel

Teel is the Red Sox third-ranked prospect by ITD and at the plate went 2-2 with a run on that Rafaela home run and an RBI with his double just before the home run.
