Boston Red Sox Roster Moves 6/18

Red Sox Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Boston Red Sox picked up their third straight win last night as they beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-3 behind four home runs coming from Rafael Devers, Ceddanne Rafaela, and two from Tyler O’Neill. Nick Pivetta was dominant on the mound as well going seven innings giving up three runs on nine hits; he walked one and struck out four. The Red Sox have won six of their last eight and tonight will send their best pitcher so far this season in Tanner Houck as he faces off against Chris Bassitt for Toronto. The Red Sox continue to get reinforcements as they got Romy Gonzalez back last night and he went 2-3 with a walk. Today they get back RHP Chris Martin from the 15-day injured list and in a surprising corresponding move, RHP Cooper Criswell has been optioned to Triple-A Worcester. It’s likely with the off days coming up the Red Sox roll with a four-man rotation or call up another arm from Worcester.

  • Chris Martin was reinstated from the 15-day injured list.
  • Cooper Criswell Optioned to Triple-A Worcester.

Red Sox Roster Moves By The Numbers

RHP – Chris Martin

Martin is in the second and final season of his contract with the Red Sox. Last season, he was dominant out of the pen for Boston making 55 appearances going 4-1 with a 1.05 ERA, a 2.44 FIP, a 1.03 WHIP, and 46 strikeouts in 51.1 innings. This season he’s struggled a little bit making 21 appearances going 2-1 with a 4.22 ERA, a 3.90 FIP, a 1.07 WHIP, and 24 strikeouts in 21.1 innings. He would land on the injured list as he was dealing with anxiety, on his way back he’s made one appearance at Triple-A Worcester going one inning giving up one walk. Now he’s back to help solidify the back end of the Red Sox bullpen.

RHP – Cooper Criswell

Criswell is in his first season with the Red Sox and hasn’t pitched badly as the fifth starter for them. He has made 12 appearances with 11 of those coming as starts going 3-3 with a 4.15 ERA, a 3.69 FIP, a 1.21 WHIP, and 49 strikeouts in 52 innings. In his last start, he faced the Yankees going four innings giving up two runs on three hits; he walked two and struck out six. At Worcester this season he’s made two starts going 0-1 with a 0.87 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP, and nine strikeouts in 10.1 innings.
