Michael Petersen Returns to the Majors

Michael Petersen rejoins the Braves bullpen after a solid run in Gwinnett. Throughout the season, Petersen has delivered consistent outings, showcasing a mid-90s fastball and effective breaking pitches. His recent performances earned another look from the big-league club.

In Triple-A, Michael Petersen appeared in 18 games and posted a 3.27 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 22 innings. In two games with Atlanta, he posted a 6.00 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP, and two strikeouts in three innings.

Austin Cox Heads Back to Gwinnett

Meanwhile, Austin Cox returns to Gwinnett after a brief stint with the major league squad. During his time with Atlanta, Cox made two appearances out of the bullpen and allowed one earned run over three innings. Although his outings weren’t dominant, Cox showed flashes of his potential, especially against left-handed hitters.

However, the Braves needed a fresh right-handed arm, and Cox remained the logical choice to be optioned. He will now return to the Stripers’ bullpen, where in 11 games he posted a 4.85 ERA, a 1.69 WHIP, and ten strikeouts in 13 innings.

Braves Adjust Bullpen Depth with Michael Petersen

As the Braves chase the top spot in the National League East, every roster decision matters. This latest move underscores Atlanta’s commitment to maintaining flexibility in the bullpen. Injuries and inconsistent performances have tested the club’s depth, but call-ups like Petersen provide important reinforcements.

Moreover, these roster moves come ahead of a critical stretch of games against division rivals. The Braves hope Petersen can help bridge the gap to their high-leverage relievers, while Cox continues to sharpen his command in Triple-A.
