Athletics 2025 Draft Recap

Athletics 2025 Draft Recap

The MLB Draft was this past Sunday and Monday, and it was both full of surprises and equally unsurprising, all at once. The same held for the Athletics, who made a bit of a splash taking a pitcher, left-hander Jamie Arnold with the 11th overall pick, yet they stayed true to their organizational identity by not drafting a high schooler until the 12th round.

After selecting the former Florida State Seminole with the team’s first selection, the Athletics and GM David Forst took outfielders from the college ranks, Devin Taylor and Gavin Turley, with their next two picks.

The club then took four pitchers in their next six picks. Two righties, Zane Taylor and Samuel Dutton, and two lefties, Grant Richardson and Corey Braun. The hurlers were interspersed with a catcher, Logan Sauve, and a third baseman, Daniel Bucciero.

Rounding out the aforementioned college picks is shortstop Bobby Boser and left-handed pitcher Alex Barr. Rounding out the draft for the A’s were a pair of catchers, a shortstop, and three each of right-handed and left-handed pitchers.

Some obvious needs were addressed, mostly pitching and catching, but also a smattering of infielders and a couple of high-round outfielders. With so many of the A’s selections being from college, it’s fair to assume some rapid progression through the minors is in order, as the A’s are currently being led by Nick Kurtz and Jacob Wilson, the team’s two most recent first-round picks.
