Worcester Red Sox Throw Combined No-Hitter Against Rochester Red Wings

The Worcester Red Sox this season are 7-8 and feature top Red Sox prospects in Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer. They picked up a no-hitter this afternoon against the Rochester Red Wings in the first game of two in a doubleheader. The game because it was a doubleheader was only seven innings. The Red Sox used only three pitchers with Cooper Criswell getting the start going four innings, walking two and striking out four. Isiah Campbelll went two innings striking out two and walking none. Jacob Webb got the seventh and didn’t issue a walk and struck out two. The three pitchers combined for seven innings, with two walks and eight strikeouts.

The Worcester Red Sox got things started early when Anthony hit a solo home run to make it 1-0 in the top of the first. In the top of the third, Nate Eaton doubled home Mayer and Abraham Toro. A few batters later, Phillip Sikes walked and brought home Trayce Thompson. Then with the bases still loaded, Anthony hit another home run, this time it was a Grand Slam to make it 8-0 Worcester. That would be the final. Anthony this season is hitting .300 with a 1.064 OPS. He has four home runs, 12 RBI, and a stolen base. It’s only a matter of time before he gets the call to Boston. The two Red Wings to reach base via walk were Brady House and Robert Hassell III, two of the Washington Nationals’ top prospects.
