Two Pittsburgh Pirates Named to Futures Game

The Pittsburgh Pirates will have two players from their minor league system taking part in the 2024 Futures Game which will be played on July 13th at 4:10 PM EST. The Pirates could have had three but have Paul Skenes up doing his thing with the big-league club but they will still be sending an arm as Bubba Chandler gets the nod and the other is infielder Termarr Johnson. Both are ranked in the Top 100 by ITD.

RHP – Bubba Chandler

Chandler is ranked the 64th overall prospect by ITD. Chandler is in his third season in the Pirates system after being drafted by the Pirates in the third round of the 2021 MLB Draft. He’s appeared in 53 games with 48 coming as starts going 15-10 with a 4.06 ERA, a 1.32 WHIP, and 256 strikeouts in 206.1 innings. This season he’s appeared in 14 games with 12 of them coming as starts going 4-5 with a 4.17 ERA (21st in Eastern League), a 1.15 WHIP (T-5th in Eastern League), and 68 strikeouts (T-16th in Eastern League) in 54 innings.

2B – Termarr Johnson

Johnson is ranked the 56th overall prospect by ITD. He was drafted with the fourth overall pick by the Pirates in the 2022 MLB Draft. He’s played in 200 games hitting .235 with a .803 OPS; he has 29 doubles, two triples, 26 home runs, 96 RBI, 142 runs scored, 172 walks, and 29 stolen bases. This season at High-A Greensboro he has played in 72 games hitting .226 with a .740 OPS; he has 11 doubles, one triple, seven home runs, 31 RBI, 52 runs scored (3rd in South Atlantic League), 55 walks (1st in South Atlantic League), and 13 stolen bases.
