The Texas Rangers started Cactus League play with a bang. After raising the 2023 World Series Championship banner over Surprise Stadium, the Rangers took the League opener against the Kansas City Royals on Friday, February 23rd, with a score of 5-4. On Saturday, the teams flipped the script, and the Royals came out on top with the same score of 5-4. Sunday saw the Rangers in their first matchup with the San Francisco Giants, which ended in a 0-0 draw. Before Sunday’s game manager Bruce Bochy was honored by both teams with his induction into the Cactus League Hall of Fame. Monday, the Rangers took to the road to meet the Chicago White Sox in a game that ended in a score of 4-2 in favor of the Rangers. Tuesday’s game was a World Series rematch as the Rangers met the Arizona Diamondbacks on the field, and as they did in November, the Rangers came out on top with a score of 10-3.

OF – Evan Carter
The Rangers’ good luck charm Evan Carter, affectionately dubbed the Little Savior by his teammates in the 2023 postseason, is ready to take his success to new heights in 2024. During Cactus League play, he has appeared in three games. He exited the second of those games after being hit by a pitch in his first plate appearance, resulting in x-rays that came back negative. He is 1-6 with one run, one RBI, one hit by pitch, and three strikeouts.
OF – Wyatt Langford
Up-and-coming star Wyatt Langford has appeared in three of the five Cactus League games. He is 1-8 with two runs, a walk, and four strikeouts.
INF – Sebastian Walcott
Sebastian Walcott is not currently present in Surprise for Spring Training with the club.
RHP – Brock Porter
Brock Porter is not currently present in Surprise for Spring Training with the club.
INF – Justin Foscue
Justin Foscue has appeared in four of the five games so far. He is 1-8 with one run, three hits, one walk and four strikeouts.
INF – Abimelec Ortiz
Abimelec Ortiz has appeared in two of the five games. He is 0-3 with two strikeouts.
INF – Davis Wendzel
Davis Wendzel has appeared in all five of the Rangers games thus far. He is 2-8 with two RBIs and three strikeouts.
INF – Matt Duffy
.Matt Duffy has appeared in three of the five games. He is 2-7 with two runs, one RBI and one walk.
RHP – Jack Leiter
Jack Leiter has pitched a total of three innings across two games, giving up one hit, four runs, one earned run, and one strikeout.
INF – Cameron Cauley
Cameron Cauley was called up out of the minors’ camp on February 24th, 2024, to join the Rangers for spring training. He made his Spring Training debut the same day with a walk and a stolen base, and he scored from 2nd base on a single by Elier Hernandez in the top of the 7th inning. In the top of the 9th, Cauley sold a hit by pitch and scored from 2nd base once again on a single by Blaine Crim. Cauley’s cunning and speed landed him a spot in my top 10. Cauley is 0-3 with three runs and one walk in his three appearances. All three runs were scored from second base on two singles and one double.
Week Ahead:
Looking to the week ahead, the Texas Rangers have matchups with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2/28), Milwaukee Brewers (2/29), San Francisco Giants (3/1), Chicago White Sox (3/2), Oakland Athletics (3/3), Los Angeles Angels (3/4), and the Seattle Mariners (3/5). Cody Bradford will be given the ball against the Dodgers, who have Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound for his MLB spring training debut. Nathan Eovaldi is expected to start the game against the Brewers on Thursday.
