Several days ago in Surprise, Arizona, GM Chris Young sat down to speak with the gentlemen of GBagNation on 105.3 the Fan, the radio voices of the Texas Rangers. He had several injury updates for us.
Adolis Garcia
There have been rumors flying around that Garcia is injured. Chris Young stated that he was not injured in any way and was intentionally being slow-played this spring training. Garcia is expected to appear in at least one spring training game this week.
Josh Jung
According to Young, Josh Jung is doing “phenomenally well” and is likely to be expected back as early as mid-camp as a designated hitter if not returning to the hot corner.
Corey Seager
Young stated that Seager has been under the weather this past week, but is still progressing through his recovery. He has not yet returned to active baseball activities as of this last report.
Update on Jordan Montgomery
As they always do, the gentlemen of GBag Nation asked if the door was left open for the return of Jordan Montgomery. Chris Young provided a glimmer of hope, stating that the door was still open & would remain so as long as he remained unsigned.
If you have not been following the free agent market, the Boras Five have now fallen to the Boras Three, with Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery, and JD Martinez yet to agree to a contract.
Updates from Bruce Bochy
MLB Network caught up with Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy in their 30 Clubs in 15 Days segment. When asked about injured pitchers Max Scherzer, Jacob deGrom, and Tyler Mahle, he gave a promising update. Bochy stated that he expects Scherzer to return earlier than expected, possibly as early as the beginning of June. Tyler Mahle is progressing well & is the next pitcher to return, possibly as early as July. Jacob deGrom is expected to return possibly in August.
Recap
The injury updates are promising indeed, as are the Rangers prospects being showcased in Surprise this year. The Rangers have a winning combination brewing and I’m optimistic that we will see October again.
