The Tampa Bay Rays are adding to their rotation as they’re acquiring right-handed pitcher Freddy Peralta from the New York Mets. The Rays are sending outfielder Aidan Smith, right-handed pitcher Gary Gill Hill, and second baseman Emilen Pitre to the Mets for Peralta.

Peralta, this season in 22 starts, is 5-9. He has a 4.99 ERA, a 4.45 FIP, a 1.47 WHIP, and 113 strikeouts in 113.2 innings. Things haven’t gone well for Peralta in his first season with the Mets after they acquired him in the offseason from the Milwaukee Brewers.
Smith has appeared across three levels this season, playing in rookie ball, Single-A, and High-A. In 59 games between the three levels, he’s hitting .209 with a .672 OPS. He has seven doubles, three triples, ten home runs, 40 RBI, and 45 runs scored. Gill Hill has made 20 starts between High-A and Double-A. He’s 7-3 with a 4.409 ERA, a 1.38 WHIP, and 87 strikeouts in 108.1 innings. Pitre has appeared at High-A and Double-A this season. He’s played in 88 games, hitting .308 with a .885 OPS. He has 19 doubles, four triples, five home runs, 46 RBI, and 61 runs scored.
