Probable Starting Pitchers

Game 1: Robbie Ray (2-0, 3.18 ERA) vs. Marcus Stroman (0-0, 7.27 ERA)

Ray hasn’t missed a beat after rehabbing from Tommy John surgery that sidelined him for half of the 2024 campaign. He put on a masterclass against his former team on Saturday, working six innings of one-run baseball. Marcus Stroman, on the other hand, had a rough four innings in Pittsburgh last Saturday. He surrendered four runs on three hits and three walks while striking out only three.

Game 2: Jordan Hicks (1-0, 2.38 ERA) vs. Will Warren (0-0, 6.00 ERA)

Hicks had a less-than-impressive outing against the Mariners on Sunday, but managed to hold on long enough to grab the dub. Despite the home runs, Hicks’ sweeper was lethal, generating 5 whiffs in his 5.1 innings of work. Meanwhile, Warren will be on the hill for the Yankees. He retired the first eight batters he faced at PNC Park on Sunday against a struggling Pirates offense. That dominance was short-lived, however, after a two-out walk, a single, and a Bryan Reynolds double put the Pirates in the lead.

Game 3: Logan Webb (1-0, 1.89 ERA) vs. Carlos Rodón (1-2, 5.19 ERA)

The Giants squandered a brilliant performance by Webb on Monday, dropping the game and the series to the Reds. Webb pitched seven dominant innings while striking out 10 batters and not allowing a single run or walk. New York, on the other hand, is facing something of a pitching crisis at the moment. With Gerrit Cole out for the season, Rodón has been expected to fill in as the Yankees’ ace. His last outing in Detroit, however, was far from ace material. He did give the Yankees bullpen a break with six innings of work, but he also gave up six runs (five earned) on the way to a 6-2 loss. Rodón will need to incorporate his changeup and curveball if he hopes to silence the Giants on Sunday in the third game of the Giants vs Yankees Series.

Players to Watch

New York Yankees

Aaron Judge has been going off this season, so expect more of the same as the Bombers return to the Bronx on Friday. Despite a disappointing road trip to Pittsburgh and Detroit, Judge is still crushing the ball. He leads the majors with six home runs, 20 RBIs, and a mind-blowing 225 OPS+. If he can work the count a bit better while avoiding striking out, the Giants will be in for a very long weekend.

San Francisco Giants

Heliot Ramos flew under the radar last year while giving the Giants a very solid season. He slashed .269/.322/.469, hit 22 home runs, and 72 RBIs. That is the kind of steady production the Giants will need if they hope to remain competitive in a very talented NL West. His ability to hit for average and power could give the Yankees problems, especially against a struggling Marcus Stroman and Will Warren.
