Probable Starting Pitchers

Game 1: Luis Severino (0-1, 3.75 ERA) vs Michael King (1-0, 3.52 ERA)

King, after starting his career with the Yankees, moved to San Diego ahead of the 2024 season as part of the Juan Soto trade. The new Padre built on an already strong career, posting a 2.95 ERA in his first season on the west coast. The 31 year old Severino, in the midst of a similarly strong career, is also a one time Yankee.

Game 2: Jeffrey Springs (1-1, 4.00 ERA) vs Dylan Cease (1-0, 3.38 ERA)

Similar to King, Cease is also entering his second year in San Diego. He started his career with the White Sox. The Padres ace of staff and Cy Young contender is aiming to build on a strong start in year number two in San Diego. Springs too was recently moved, from Tampa Bay to the Athletics for the 32 year old, who is coming off an injury riddled 2024.

Game 3: Osvaldo Bido (1-0, 2.70 ERA) vs Randy Vasquez (0-1, 1.69 ERA)

In what is hoped to be Vasquez’s first full MLB season. He has, so far, making a strong impression, though, in keeping with career trends, not a high strikeout pitcher. As the Athletics top starter thus far, Bido doesn’t overwhelm with strikeouts, but is nonetheless able to piece together strong starts.

Player to watch

San Diego Padres

A .353 BA implies a multi time All Star, but for a 21 year old already in his second season, that average screams “special player”. The Padres young outfielder, Jackson Merrill IS special.

Athletics

Catchers aren’t usually a team’s best hitter, but Shea Langeliers has quickly become one of the Athletics best hitter, and that has continued to this season. The A’s 27 year old game caller has so far accounted for a somewhat usual .250 BA, but Langeliers has already collected 3 home runs and a corresponding .953 OPS.
