Series Preview: Detroit Tigers vs. Los Angeles Dodgers with Probable Starting Pitching 3/27-3/29

The Detroit Tigers will play a three-game series, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Tigers are coming off a series win over the Guardians taking three of their four games while the Dodgers are coming off being swept by the Phillies.

Probable Starting Pitchers

Game 1: Tarik Skubal (10-3, 2.37 ERA) vs. James Paxton (7-2, 4.24 ERA)

Skubal gets the series started for the Tigers, he is 10-3 with a 2.37 ER, a 2.54 FIP, a 0.90 WHIP, a 1.6 BB/9, and a 10.8 K/9 in 110 innings. In his last three starts, he is 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA, a 0.60 WHIP, and 27 strikeouts in 20 innings. The Tigers are 12-6 when he starts. Paxton will oppose whoever the Tigers trot out, he is 7-2 with a 4.24 ERA, a 4.92 FIP, a 1.40 WHIP, a 4.5 BB/9, and a 6.2 K/9 in 80.2 innings. In his last five starts, he’s had one hiccup going 2-1 with a 4.33 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP, and 23 strikeouts in 27 innings. The Dodgers are 12-4 when he starts this season.

Game 2: Keider Montero (1-2, 4.64) vs. Justin Wrobleski (0-1, 7.20 ERA)

Montero gets the middle game he is 1-2 with a 4.64 ERA, a 4.96 FIP, a 1.17 WHIP, a 2.5 BB/9, and an 8.0 K/9 in 21.1 innings. He’s pitched well in his last two starts going 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA, a 0.87 WHIP, and eight strikeouts in 12.2 innings. The Tigers are 2-1 when he starts. Wrobleski gets the ball for the Dodgers making his second career start. In his first outing, he went five innings giving up four runs on five hits; he walked two and struck out four.

Game 3: TBD vs. TBD

The Tigers will go with a bullpen game to wrap up the first half after moving Kenta Maeda to the bullpen. The Dodgers haven’t announced a starter for this game either after demoting Bobby Miller to Triple-A.

Wrap Up

The Tigers will wrap up the first half this weekend. In a season that had high expectations, it has been disappointing and the Tigers are trending toward being sellers however they’ve won seven of their last ten and six of their last seven. If they take two out of three from the Dodgers it could be a momentum boost for the second half.
