Gavin Stone was born in Lake City, Arkansas, on October 15, 1998. He played high school baseball at Riverside High School in Lake City, AR. Stone was a two-time All-State selection, a four-time All-Conference player, and the MVP of the Arkansas High School All-Star Game. He committed to play college baseball at the University of Central Arkansas.

Stone in his first season at Central Arkansas made 12 appearances with five of those coming as starts going 2-2 with a 5.33 ERA, a 1.97 WHIP, and 20 strikeouts in 25.1 innings. In his second season, he made 20 starts with two of those coming as starts going 4-3 with a 1.52 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, and 58 strikeouts in 41.1 innings. In the summer he played for Battle Creek in the Northwoods League making two appearances going 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP, and three strikeouts in two innings. In his third season, he made four starts due to the season being canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, he went 3-1 with a 1.30 ERA, a 0.76 WHIP, and 31 strikeouts in 27.2 innings. That summer he played for Great Lakes also in the Northwoods League making two starts going 0-1 with an 8.10 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP, and four strikeouts in 3.1 innings.

Stone pitched across two levels in his first pro season pitching at Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and High-A Great Lakes making 23 appearances with 22 of them coming as starts going 2-2 with a 3.76 ERA, a 1.23 WHIP, and 138 strikeouts in 91 innings.

2022

Stone appeared across three levels as he pitched at High-A Great Lakes, Double-A Tulsa, and Triple-A Oklahoma City making 26 appearances with 25 of those coming as starts he went 9-6 with a 1.48 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP, and 168 strikeouts in 121.2 innings.

He pitched at Triple-A Oklahoma City making 21 appearances with 19 of those coming as starts going 7-4 with a 4.74 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP, and 120 strikeouts in 100.2 innings. He also made his MLB debut with the Dodgers making eight appearances with four of those coming as starts going 1-1 with a 9.00 ERA, a 1.90 WHIP, and 22 strikeouts in 31 innings.

ITD ranks Stone as the 98th overall prospect and the Dodgers third-ranked prospect. He is expected to start the season with either the Dodgers or at Triple-A in 2024.
