Seattle Mariners Make a Trade With the Toronto Blue Jays

One of the top relievers on the trade market has been officially moved as the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners agreed to a trade that will send RHP Yimi Garcia to the Mariners in exchange for outfield prospect Jonathan Clase and catching prospect Jacob Sharp

Trade By The Numbers 

RHP – Yimi Garcia 

Garcia has been with Toronto since 2022 and has pitched in 163 games going 10-9 with nine saves, a 3.44 ERA, a 3.28 FIP, a 1.08 WHIP, a 2.2 BB/9, and a 10.3 K/9 in 157 innings. This season he’s appeared in 29 games going 3-0 with five saves, a 2.70 ERA, a 2.64 FIP, a 0.80 WHIP, a 2.4 BB/9, and a 12.6 K/9 in 30 innings.

OF – Jonatan Clase

Clase has been in the Mariners system since 2019 playing in 372 games hitting .264 with a .831 OPS; he has 74 doubles, 30 triples, 47 home runs, 183 RBI, 316 runs scored, 207 stolen bases, and 244 walks. This season at Triple-A Tacoma he’s appeared in 59 games hitting .274 with a .856 OPS; he had 11 doubles, four triples, ten home runs, 34 RBI, 47 runs scored, 26 stolen bases, and 40 walks. With Seattle in 19 games he went 8-41 with a double, three RBI, four runs scored, three stolen bases, and two walks. 

C – Jacob Sharp

Sharp was drafted in the 17th round of the 2023 MLB Draft. He spent last season in the rookie league playing in 11 games hitting .143 with a .393 OPS; he had four RBI, three runs scored, a stolen base, and three walks. This season at Single-A Modesto he’s played in 44 games hitting .255 with a .773 OPS; he had 11 doubles, six home runs, 29 RBI, 32 runs scored, three stolen bases, and 18 walks.
