Ricky Tiedemann Makes First Start in Two Seasons

It’s been 706 days since southpaw Ricky Tiedemann stepped on a mound. On Tuesday morning, that all changed as Tiedemann got the start in the Florida Complex League. The former 29th-ranked prospect in baseball pitched one inning, allowing a run on two hits. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out two. The FCL Blue Jays lost the game to the FCL Tigers 15-2. Tiedemann last pitched July 10, 2024, at Triple-A Buffalo. He went one inning, allowing one run on a hit, walking three, and striking out one. He is the Blue Jays’ fourth-ranked prospect in the system and the second-ranked pitching prospect.

The Blue Jays drafted the lefty in the third round of the 2021 MLB Draft. He made his debut in the organization in 2022. He made 18 starts between Single-A Dunedin, High-A Vancouver, and Double-A New Hampshire. Tiedemann went 5-4 with a 2.17 ERA, a 0.86 WHIP, and 117 strikeouts in 78.2 innings. In 2023, he made 15 starts between rookie ball, Dunedin, New Hampshire, and Triple-A Buffalo. Tiedemann went 0-5 with a 3.68 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP, and 82 strikeouts in 44 innings. In his last season, he made eight starts between rookie ball, Dunedin, and Buffalo, going 0-1. He had a 5.19 ERA, a 1.67 WHIP, and 27 strikeouts in 17.1 innings. Over his tenure with the Blue Jays organization, he’s made 41 starts, going 5-10 with a 3.02 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, and 226 strikeouts in 140 innings.
