Tyler Black was born in Toronto, Ontario, on July 26, 2000. He played high school baseball at St. Andrew’s College High School in Aurora, ON. He was the third-ranked shortstop and the 28th-ranked overall player in Ontario. Black also played three years of football and AAA hockey. Black was ranked the 579th shortstop nationally and in the 1000 for overall players. He committed to play college baseball at Wright State University.

Black played for the Brewers rookie league team and Single-A Carolina. In 26 games he slashed .241/.426/.322 with a .748 OPS; he had four doubles, one home run, eight RBI, 15 runs scored, five stolen bases, and 26 walks.

2022

Black played for High-A Wisconsin appearing in 64 games and he slashed .281/.406/.424 with a .831 OPS; he had 13 doubles, four triples, four home runs, 35 RBI, 45 runs scored, 13 stolen bases, and 45 walks. In the fall he played in the Arizona Fall League with Glendale and in 17 games he slashed .279/.413/.377 with a .790 OPS; he had three doubles, one home run, ten RBI, 14 runs scored, four stolen bases, and ten walks.
