Tyler Black was born in Toronto, Ontario, on July 26, 2000. He played high school baseball at St. Andrew’s College High School in Aurora, ON. He was the third-ranked shortstop and the 28th-ranked overall player in Ontario. Black also played three years of football and AAA hockey. Black was ranked the 579th shortstop nationally and in the 1000 for overall players. He committed to play college baseball at Wright State University.

In his first season at Wright State, he played in 52 games, and he slashed .353/.470/.600 with a 1.070 OPS; he had 11 doubles, five triples, seven home runs, 41 RBI, 46 runs scored, eight stolen bases, and 38 walks. In his second season he played in 13 games due to the season being cut short because of COVID, in these games he slashed .239/.340/.370 with a .709 OPS; he had one double, one triple, one home run, five RBI, six runs scored, and seven walks. In 2021 his final season he played in 48 games, and he slashed .383/.496/.683 with a 1.179 OPS; he had 14 doubles, one triple, 13 home runs, 59 RBI, 64 runs scored, 11 stolen bases, and 39 walks.

Black was ranked the 57th overall prospect entering the 2021 draft. The Milwaukee Brewers drafted him with the 33rd overall pick.

2021

Black played for the Brewers rookie league team and Single-A Carolina. In 26 games he slashed .241/.426/.322 with a .748 OPS; he had four doubles, one home run, eight RBI, 15 runs scored, five stolen bases, and 26 walks.

2022

Black played for High-A Wisconsin appearing in 64 games and he slashed .281/.406/.424 with a .831 OPS; he had 13 doubles, four triples, four home runs, 35 RBI, 45 runs scored, 13 stolen bases, and 45 walks. In the fall he played in the Arizona Fall League with Glendale and in 17 games he slashed .279/.413/.377 with a .790 OPS; he had three doubles, one home run, ten RBI, 14 runs scored, four stolen bases, and ten walks.

ITD ranks Black as the 46th overall prospect and the Brewers fourth-ranked prospect. He is expected to start the season at Triple-A in 2024.
