Anthony Solometo was born in Voorhees, New Jersey, on December 2, 2002. He played high school baseball at Gloucester Catholic High School in Gloucester City, NJ, and Bishop Eustace Preparatory School in Pennsauken, NJ. He was the first-ranked LHP and the third-ranked overall player in New Jersey.

At Gloucester Catholic, he made eight appearances, going 0-1 with a 3.05 ERA, a save, and 32 strikeouts in 20.2 innings. At Bishop Eustace Prep, he made one appearance, going 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 11 strikeouts in seven innings.

Solomon was ranked the third LHP in the country and the 28th-ranked overall player. He committed to play college baseball at the University of North Carolina.

When Was Anthony Solometo Drafted?

Solometo was drafted out of high school by the Pirates in the second round of the 2021 draft and chose to sign with Pittsburgh over attending North Carolina.

Anthony Solometo Pirates Tenure

2022

Solometo played his first season with the Pirates organization with Single-A Bradenton, where he made 13 appearances, with eight being starts, going 5-1 with a 2.64 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP, and 51 strikeouts in 47.2 innings.

The Hub for Baseball Highlights

2023

Solometo played for High-A Greensboro until June and then jumped to Double-A Altoona, where he spent the rest of the season. He made 24 starts, going 4-7 with a 3.26 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP, and 118 strikeouts in 110.1 innings of work.

Future

ITD ranks Solometo as the 70th overall prospect and the Pirates third-ranked prospect. He will likely start the season at either Double-A or Triple-A; if it’s Double-A and he finds momentum, expect the jump to Triple-A to come relatively quickly.
