The Oakland A’s currently sit 15 games back of the American League West and are 17.5 games back of the wild card race. Tomorrow will start the second half of the season and the A’s will have a new face on the squad. Today it was announced the A’s will be calling up their top prospect shortstop Jacob Wilson who is ranked the 53rd overall prospect by ITD, and 50th by MLB Pipeline. Wilson was drafted by the A’s sixth overall in the 2023 draft out of Grand Canyon University.

Wilson after being drafted played for the A’s rookie league team and High-A Lansing playing in 26 games hitting .333 with a .866 OPS; he had 11 doubles, one home run, 13 RBI, 17 runs scored, six walks, and four stolen bases. This season he’s played for their rookie league, Double-A, and Triple-A wasting no time rising through the ranks. He’s played in 46 games combined hitting .438 with a 1.162 OPS; he had 25 doubles, seven home runs, 34 RBI, 44 runs scored, two stolen bases, and 12 walks. At Triple-A he’s played in 19 games hitting .398 with a 1.083 OPS; he had eight doubles, four home runs, 12 RBI, 22 runs scored, and seven walks. Based on how he’s performed at Triple-A Las Vegas he seems ready and part of the future for this team is coming now.
