Grand Slams Dominate Day Two

In Oklahoma State’s extra-inning win over Alabama State, Colin Brueggemann hit a grand slam in the fourth inning. Arizona State, facing elimination, picked up a 17-0 win behind two grand slams in the game. Nu’u Contrades hit one in the fifth inning, while Austen Roelig hit one in the sixth inning. USC got a grand slam in their win over Lamar as Walter Urbon hit one in the fourth inning.

Tennessee Eliminated

The Volunteers dropped the first two games of the tournament and had their season come to an end with today’s 5-4 loss to VCU. It was the first time they didn’t advance out of the Regional round since 2019, when they were also eliminated in the Chapel Hill Regional. It’s the first time they’ve been swept out of the regional in school history. This comes two seasons after winning the National Championship and the first season under Josh Elander after the San Francisco Giants hired former head coach Tony Vitello.

Hattiesburg Regional Host Eliminated

The Southern Miss Golden Eagles lost yesterday, 7-4, to the four-seed Little Rock, forcing them to an elimination game. They faced Virginia in the elimination game. The game would go to extra innings, but a four-run tenth for the Cavaliers would send Southern Miss home.

Auburn Stays Alive with Eight-Run First

The Tigers send the NC State Wolf Pack home after a 17-7 win. Eight of their 17 runs came in the first inning. They added two more in the second, two more in the fourth, and five more in the sixth inning.

Top Seed Stays Alive

UCLA was down 5-3 entering the bottom of the ninth, facing elimination. The Bruins got back-to-back home runs to tie the game and then a walk-off single. The win eliminates Virginia Tech and keeps the Bruins alive for another day.

Top Draft Pitching Prospect Dominates

The top-ranked pitching prospect in this summer’s draft and the fifth overall prospect in the draft, righty Jackson Flora, got the ball in UC Santa Barbara’s elimination game against Holy Cross. He went 7.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits; the lone run came on a home run. He walked two and struck out nine.

Texas Offense Continues to Explode

The Longhorns have put up a total of 35 runs in the first two games of the tournament. Averaging 17.5 runs per game. They had a run in every inning of the first 13 innings of the tournament, but that was snapped in the fifth inning of tonight’s game. They beat the Texans 16-2 and await who they’ll play tonight.

Gators Wins Battle of Florida

The Hurricanes struck first, but the Gators responded quickly. Florida put up six runs in the first inning. Miami climbed back and made it 6-4 in the third with three runs, but the Gators added another in the bottom half. The Hurricanes got two more at the top of the fourth to bring it within one. The Gators added another run to make the deficit two. Miami would tie it in the fifth but in the bottom of the sixth Florida erupted for seven runs and they did it again in the eighth to put the game away winning 22-10.

Saint Mary’s chance to eliminate UCLA

The Gaels lost to Cal Poly late last night and will now face top-seeded UCLA in an elimination game. Saint Mary’s beat UCLA on Friday to put the top seed in the tournament on the brink of elimination. Now this afternoon they have a chance to send them home.

Suspended Games

In the Tallahassee Regional Florida State and Coastal Carolina were suspended in the sixth inning and will resume at 11:00 AM EST. The Seminoles lead 2-1. In the Lincoln Regional Ole Miss and Nebraska were suspended in the ninth inning with the Rebels leading 6-3. That game will resume at 1:00 PM EST.
