MLB Game Recap

Milwaukee secured a 2-1 win on Wednesday despite being held hitless through seven innings by Cardinals starter Dustin May. Starter Chad Patrick threw 61 pitches over 4.0 innings, allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out four (4.0 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 4 K). The game turned in the eighth. Garrett Mitchell doubled to break the no-hit bid. His hit led to a Christian Yelich RBI single. Sal Frelick scored the go-ahead run on a Masyn Winn fielding error.

Standout Performer

Reliever Aaron Ashby earned the win to improve to a major-league-leading 9-0 record. Ashby dominated over 2.0 innings of work, yielding just one hit and one walk while recording two strikeouts (2.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 30 pitches). He did not allow any runs in the sixth and seventh innings. This kept the deficit at a single run. It allowed the offense to rally in the eighth eventually.

Key News & Notes

The Brewers placed Logan Henderson on the 15-day IL with a low back strain. They recalled Coleman Crow from Triple-A. Manager Pat Murphy praised the team’s persistence. He noted they “stole one” after being shut down for most of the afternoon. In additional injury news, outfielder Brandon Lockridge was cleared to hit off a machine. Jared Koenig is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment on May 29.

Farm Report

  • Triple-A: Nashville lost 5-3 to Gwinnett; Jeferson Quero went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and two RBIs. Quero’s sixth home run of the season provided the majority of the Sounds’ offense.
  • Double-A: Biloxi lost both games of a doubleheader to Columbus. The scores were 2-1 and 4-1. Darrien Miller went 1-for-3 with a home run. Miller’s eighth homer produced the Shuckers’ only run in the opener.
  • High-A: Wisconsin split a twinbill with Peoria. They won the nightcap 12-7. Juan Baez went 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs. Baez’s three-run double in the fourth inning helped the Rattlers break the game open.
  • Low-A: The Warbirds fell 6-2 to the Pelicans; Handelfry Encarnacion finished 2-for-4 with one RBI. Encarnacion accounted for half the team’s scoring with a fifth-inning RBI single.
  • Rookie: ACL Brewers lost 6-2 to the Royals; Abraham Frias went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Frias provided a rare bright spot on offense in a game where the team left 10 runners on base.

Looking Ahead

The Brewers have an off-day on Thursday before opening a series in Houston on Friday. RHP Coleman Crow (0-0, 2.61 ERA) is the probable starter for the series opener.

Sweeping a rival while hitless for seven innings proves this team’s resilience is real. What do you think?
