Diamondbacks, Carroll Agree on Extension

The Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to an eight-year extension worth $111 million with outfielder Corbin Carroll. The extension also has a club option for a ninth year that would bring the total salary to $134 million. The 22-year-old outfielder has been a standout presence on the field for the Diamondbacks both in the minors and at the major league level since his debut.

In 104 at-bats in 32 MLB regular season games last season, Carroll had a .260 average with a .330 on-base percentage and a .830 on-base plus slugging. In those 104 at-bats, he has 13 runs scored, four home runs, two stolen bases, and 14 RBI.

Carroll is a key piece of the Diamondbacks’ future, and the especially exciting thing is that he’s just 22 years old. His wheels on the base paths are one of the most exciting things with how he can turn a regular base hit into extra bases and steal bases. Prior to his time at the major league level last season, he spent time at the rookie level in Arizona, coming off an injury in 2021. After spending time at the rookie level last season, he jumped up to the Double-A Amarillo Sod Poodles and then the Triple-A Reno Aces.

He spent 58 games with Amarillo and had 227 at-bats, scoring 62 runs and had 71 hits, including 11 doubles, eight triples, and 16 home runs to go with 39 RBI. He also had a .313 average, a .430 on-base percentage, and a .643 slugging percentage to go with 20 stolen bases.

He then spent 33 games with Triple-A Reno and had 129 at-bats, scoring 25 runs and had 37 hits, including 11 doubles and seven home runs to go with 22 RBI. He also had a .287 average, a .408 on-base percentage, and a .535 slugging percentage to go with 11 stolen bases.

With Carroll likely to start at the major league level this season and expected to play most of the season, barring any unforeseen circumstances such as injuries, he should be able to build on last season’s work.
