Detroit Tigers Spring Breakout Recap

The Detroit Tigers top prospects took on the Philadelphia Phillies prospects in the inaugural Spring Breakout. Two of the four Tigers prospects in ITD’s Top 100 played in this game in Max Clark and Jace Jung.

The Game

Brant Hurter got the start going three innings, he gave up one run on three hits; he didn’t walk anyone and struck out four.

The Phillies got on the board first in the Top of the First inning after a Justin Crawford single and he stole second base Aidan Miller drove him home on a single. 

The Tigers even things up in the Bottom of the First on a Jace Jung solo home run.

The Tigers went to Ty Madden who is the Tigers sixth ranked prospect by ITD. He went for 2.1 innings as he pitched the fourth, fifth, and part of the sixth. He didn’t give up a run on two hits; he walked two and struck out one. 

The Tigers took the lead in the Bottom of the Fourth starting with a single by Jake Holton, he would advance to second base on a ground out by Trei Cruz and would score when Hao-Yu Lee reached on a fielding error.

The Tigers added to their lead when their fourth ranked prospect by ITD hit another home run as Jace Jung made it 3-1 with a solo home run to right field.

After Ty Madden the Tigers turned to Adam Wolf who pitched 0.2 innings and he didn’t give up a hit, a run, or record a walk or strikeout. Troy Melton went two innings for the Tigers and he didn’t give up a run or a hit; he also didn’t walk anyone and he recorded on strikeout.

The Tigers added two more runs in the Bottom of the Seventh after a walk by Roberto Campos, Cristian Santana was called out on strikes, and then Seth Stephenson walked. Stephenson and Campos would score when Josh Crouch hit a double to center field to make it 5-1 Tigers.

Wilmer Flores who is the Tigers fifth ranked prospect got the last inning for the Tigers and he didn’t give up a run or a hit and walked one and struck out two.

Detroit Tigers Three Stars

Jace Jung

Jung went 2-2 with both hits coming as solo home runs and he also walked once.

Josh Crouch

Crouch went 1-1 with that two RBI double to in the seventh inning.

Ty Madden

Madden went 2.1 innings and he got the win giving up two hits, he walked two, and struck out one.
