Detroit Tigers Notebook: Another Much-Needed Win, A In-Depth Look at Home, and More

The Detroit Tigers picked up their second straight win over the Chicago White Sox, improving to 32-44. They’re eight games back of the Cleveland Guardians for the American League Central. They’re six games back of the Athletics for the final spot in the American League wild card standings.

The White Sox got the scoring started in the first with a solo home run. In the bottom of the fifth, Dillon Dingler singled home a run to tie the game. In the sixth, James Outman singled home a run to give them the lead, then Jake Rogers singled home a run to make it 3-1. Dingler in the seventh hit a solo home run to make it 4-1 and gave the Tigers the win.

Troy Melton got the start, going six innings, allowing one run on one hit. He walked three and struck out five. Tyler Holton and Kenley Jansen closed the game out, going three scoreless innings, allowing three hits. They combined to walk one and struck out two.

Standout Performer

Dillon Dingler went 2-4 with the RBI single and then the home run later in the game. Even on a day off the Tigers need his bat in the lineup as he was the designated hitter and delivered once again.

He may have been speaking that his Detroit tenure would come to an end, but also that he wanted to go win with this team, and here they come, this team has the talent to make another deep playoff run, they just need to put it together.

Justin Verlander was supposed to start tomorrow, but now it will be Keider Montero. It’s possible Verlander may not return, as he previously stated he would play until the wheels fell off, and now he mentioned they may have fallen off. He hopes not, but it’s certainly possible.
