Cleveland Guardians Roster Moves 5/9

Cleveland Guardians Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Cleveland Guardians are coming off a series win against the Detroit Tigers and have a 24-13 record on the season. They currently are leading the American League Central with their hot start this year. They will now visit the Chicago White Sox for a four-game series starting tonight. The White Sox are 9-28 on the year and have a 5-12 record at home this year. The Guardians will try to extend their lead in the division with a series win and potentially a clean sweep if all goes well against the White Sox this series. They made two moves today before the game with one of them being a trade!

RHP – Gavin Williams

The Guardians have transferred Williams from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list with right elbow inflammation. Williams has yet to pitch in the regular season and with today’s news, it would seem as if we might not see him until at the very earliest late summer if at all at this point unfortunately. This spring he appeared in two games starting both throwing 4.2 innings of work. He allowed four hits, one earned run, one walk, and struck out nine. He had a 1.93 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP in the spring.

RHP – Darren McCaughn

The Guardians swung a trade with the Miami Marlins today receiving McCaughn for Cash. So far this year for the Marlins he has appeared in one game only. He threw 4.2 innings allowing, nine hits, eight earned runs, three walks, and two strikeouts. He has a 15.43 ERA and a 2.57 WHIP while pitching for the Marlins. While in Triple-A pitching for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp McCaughn has one win and two losses. He made five starts for the Jumbo Shrimp allowing 26 hits, 15 earned runs, eight walks, and struck out 22. He had a 6.14 ERA and a 1.55 WHIP in Triple-A.

Wrap Up:

Today’s news of shifting Williams to the 60-day injured list is disappointing as the young RHP is talented and looked good this spring. If you add Williams to this current rotation this team might have run away with the division with a bigger gap than they currently have over the rest of the division. They have a two-and-a-half-game lead over the Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals as of today. Williams was a guy I was looking forward to watching this year and I am holding out hope that things turn around and he can contribute near the end of the year. McCaughn has been optioned down to the Triple-A Columbus Clippers as another arm in the Guardians system, the trade only cost the team some cash so no harm no foul if things do not turn around for the RHP.
