Cincinnati Reds Swing a Trade and Make a Couple Other Roster Moves

Cincinnati Reds Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

As we have reached the week before the mid-summer classic, the Reds made a flurry of moves yesterday. The Reds have a 42-48 record and are 10.5 games back from first in the National League Central. They have lost their last three games against the Detroit Tigers and are 5-5 in their last ten games. They have a seven-game home stand to wrap up the last week before the break. They will host the Colorado Rockies for four games before playing the Miami Marlins for three games this weekend. The Reds sit in fourth position in the Central and will need to get hot if they have any hopes of playing in the playoffs this year. Yesterday they made three roster moves and swung a trade with the San Fransico Giants.

OF – Nick Martini

The Reds have placed Martini on the 10-day injured list with a left thumb injury. Martini has played in 52 games this year for the Reds. He is slashing .212/.272/.370 with a .642 OPS on the year. He has 23 runs scored, four doubles, two triples, five home runs, 24 RBIs, and one steal.

LHP – Alex Young

The Reds have sent Young to the San Fransico Giants in a trade for Left Fielder Austin Slater and cash. Young has just returned to the Reds big league club and appeared in three games before being shipped out to San Fransico, who optioned him to Triple-A upon his arrival. He will pitch for the Sacramento River Cats for the Giants to start. In his three games with the Reds this year he has worked two innings, without recording a win or loss. He has a 0.00 ERA and a 2.00 WHIP this year.

OF – Austin Slater

The Reds have received Slater in the trade for Alex Young. Slater has played in 43 games for the Giants this year and is slashing .200/.330/.244 with a .574 OPS on the year for the Giants. He has one double, a home run, and nine RBIs while playing in San Fransico.

SS – Livan Soto

Soto has been recalled from Triple-A. Soto has played in 54 games in Triple-A for the Louisville Bats this year slashing .272/.366/.332 with a .698 OPS while with Louisville. He has scored 17 runs, has nine doubles, one home run, 23 RBIs, and two steals.

Overview

With a week left before the MLB has their All-Star game in Arlington, the fourth-place Cincinnati Reds made plenty of moves yesterday. The team swung a trade for another outfielder yesterday and cash for Left-hand pitcher Alex Young. It’s hard to tell right now, but I would assume the Reds will not make any major moves before the deadline as they just aren’t playing well enough to consider making any big moves. With that said if they get hot between now and the deadline that all can change, but for now it appears the Reds will continue to be hot and cold this year.
