Cincinnati Reds Roster Moves 7/8

Cincinnati Reds Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Reds enter play today with a 42-48 record and are fourth in the National League Central. They are well outside of the playoff picture right now but have a favorable last seven games before the All-Star break. They have seven games at home starting tonight with a four-game series against the Colorado Rockies. They wrap up the first half with a weekend series against the Miami Marlins. Two series wins would be a good way to end the first half especially if the Reds want to make a run in the second half. Today before the game they announced three moves to their roster, after making a trade yesterday.

OF – Rece Hinds

The Reds recalled Hinds today from the Louisville Bats in Triple-A today ahead of game one with the Colorado Rockies. He has played in 77 games this year in Triple-A with 77 runs scored, 14 doubles, two triples, 13 home runs, 41 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases. Hinds is currently slashing .216/.290/.409 with a .699 OPS in Triple-A.

OF – Stuart Fairchild

Reds placed Fairchild on the 10-day injured list with a back injury retroactive to July 7th. Hinds will take his spot until he returns.

RHP – Graham Ashcraft

Ashcraft was optioned to Triple-A today to pitch for the Triple-A Louisville Bats before the game. He has made 15 starts this year for the Reds going 5-5 on the year. He has worked in 77.1 innings allowing, 89 hits, 45 earned runs, 27 walks, and striking out 57. He has a 5.24 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP on the year.

RHP – Yosver Zulueta

The Reds recalled Zulueta ahead of the game today from Triple-A. He has pitched in one game previously for the Reds this year. He has worked in three innings with a 3.00 ERA, and 1.00 WHIP and he has recorded four strikeouts. The majority of his work has come with the Louisville Bats in Triple-A this year where he has pitched in 26 games. He is 2-0 with a 2.48 ERA over 36.1 innings of work.

Overview

The Reds continue to shuffle this roster as they try and keep things afloat ahead of the mid-summer classic. After making four moves yesterday they followed it up today with another three moves. Ashcraft’s move makes room for Nick Lodolo to return to the rotation. Hinds is an interesting bat who hasn’t hit for average but has decent pop, I will be interested to see if he gets any action. Zulueta has decent stuff and has pitched well in the minors, he just needs to avoid the free passes this time around to provide any value to the Reds bullpen.
