Cincinnati Reds Roster Moves 5/2

Cincinnati Reds Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Cincinnati Reds enter play today three and a half games back in the Central with a 16-15 record. In their recent three-game series, they are coming off a series loss to the San Diego Padres. They will start a new three-game series at home against the 19-11 Baltimore Orioles. Today is an off day for the Reds, but they have already announced two roster moves that hopefully will bring reinforcements to the roster for next week!

LHP – Alex Young

The Reds have sent Alex Young on a rehab assignment to the Louisville Bats in Triple-A. Young made one appearance this spring for the Reds. He never recorded an out, but allowed four hits, five earned runs, one home run, and two walks. in 63 relief appearances last year the left-hander was a reliable arm for the Reds. He had a four-and-two win/loss record. He pitched 53.2 innings with a 3.86 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 14 holds, 53 hits, 23 earned runs, 10 home runs, 21 free passes, and 50 strikeouts.

CF – TJ Friedl

Friedl was sent on a rehab assignment to the Louisville Bats. Friedl this spring appeared in 12 games before breaking his wrist. He scored six runs, five hits, three doubles, six walks, six strikeouts, and four stolen bases. He slashed .185/.371/.296 with a .667 OPS this spring. Last year in 138 games he had 73 runs scored, 22 doubles, eight triples, 18 home runs, 66 RBIs, 27 stolen bases, and slashed .279/.352/.467 with a .819 OPS on the year.

Wrap Up

The Reds getting closer to having their Center Fielder back at the top of the batting lineup will be a big boost for this Reds lineup. They currently have a plus-18 run differential and that’s without Friedl playing a game this regular season. Friedl is a weapon for this team setting the table for Elly De La Cruz and Spencer Steer. The addition of Young back into the bullpen will help manager David Bell with protecting leads or keeping the team in the game in the late to middle innings. These two moves are a good sign for the Reds who are sitting in third behind the Milwaukee Brewers and Cubs currently in the NL Central.
