MLB Game Recap

The Cubs’ offense struggled against Brewers’ starter Jacob Misiorowski, who threw six scoreless innings with eight strikeouts while averaging 99.9 mph on his fastball. Chicago starter Ben Brown lost the game. He allowed three runs on seven hits through five innings. He reached a season-high 82 pitches. Milwaukee secured the win in the eighth inning. Brice Turang hit a two-run home run off reliever Trent Thornton. Although the Cubs rallied for two runs in the bottom half, they ultimately matched a season high with 13 strikeouts.

Standout Performer

Nico Hoerner led the Cubs’ offense, finishing the night 2-for-3 with one RBI, one run scored, and a walk. He showed discipline by drawing a leadoff walk in the first inning. He later sparked a brief late-game comeback with an RBI single in the eighth. Hoerner reached base three times. However, the team struggled with runners in scoring position. This struggle prevented his performance from altering the outcome.

Key News & Notes

The Cubs made several roster adjustments on Tuesday. They reinstated reliever Caleb Thielbar from the injured list. They also designated Ty Blach for assignment. Injury updates also include Matthew Boyd (knee) throwing a bullpen session on Tuesday as he continues his rehabilitation. Following the loss, manager Craig Counsell highlighted a strategy change. He emphasized that hitters need to be more aggressive early in the counts against high-velocity pitchers. He noted that “sitting there hitting with two strikes, you’re going to be in trouble”.
