MLB Game Recap

The Cubs experienced a heartbreaker at Rate Field. Edgar Quero launched a two-run walk-off home run in the tenth inning. This secured the series for the South Siders. The ninth inning saw a frantic comeback. A game-tying home run fueled it. However, the bullpen struggled. Phil Maton and Ryan Rolison combined to surrender five runs over the final three frames. Starter Colin Rea surrendered four earned runs on six hits over 4.2 innings, striking out four on 83 pitches in a no-decision.

Standout Performer

Michael Conforto provided the game’s biggest highlight, finishing 2-for-4 with a run, a walk, and three RBIs. His 414-foot home run to center field in the ninth inning erased a three-run deficit. It forced extra innings. This home run provided a rare clutch hit for a lineup that finished just 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position.

Key News & Notes

The Cubs made a significant Sunday roster shakeup. They selected the contract of Ty Blach from Triple-A Iowa. They optioned Javier Assad. To facilitate the moves, the team transferred Hunter Harvey (triceps) to the 60-day injured list. Riley Martin (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list. Manager Craig Counsell expressed frustration with the team’s late-game offensive execution. He noted that while they are successfully knocking out opposing starters, they have been “shut down” by rival bullpens recently.
