It’s been reported that the Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to send reliever Yency Almonte to Chicago. Almonte is set to make 1.9 Million dollars in 2024 after recently agreeing to arbitration salary in November. The Cubs recently added Shota Imanaga to the rotation and now look to bolster their Bullpen. The more significant piece to this trade is the acquisition of Third baseman Michael Busch.
RHP – Yency Almonte
Almonte is a 29-year-old right-hand reliever standing six foot five and weighing 223 pounds who most recently pitched for the Dodgers. Last season, in 48 innings, he went 3-2 with a 5.09 era, ten holds, 49 strikeouts, and a WHIP of 1.40.
3B – Michael Busch
Michael Busch was a former first-round Pick by the Dodgers in 2019 and played 29 games with the Dodgers last year. He had 72 at-bats, nine runs scored, three doubles, two home runs, seven RBIs, and had an average of .167. Busch was a highly touted prospect for the Dodgers since being drafted. He is a left-handed bat and could be the solution at third for the Cubs in the future.
Recap
Ken Rosenthall of The Athletic reports that the Cubs will be sending two prospects in return, neither of whom are on the current 40-man roster. It has been claimed that Jackson Ferris, the left-handed pitcher, and Outfield prospect Zyhir Hope will be heading to the Dodgers in return. Busch could solve a problem at third in the future for the Cubs if they do not believe Christopher Morel can handle the day-to-day duties at the hot corner in Wrigley. Almonte is another bullpen arm for Craig Counsell to utilize this upcoming season. Overall Busch was the prize in this deal, now we wait to see the actual cost!
