The Chicago Cubs might have beaten the New York Mets last night, 9-6. However, they’ve seen another pitcher suffer an injury. Last night, while covering first base, Edward Cabrera took an awkward fall and was carted off the field. He is scheduled for Imaging later today in New York. The Cubs and Mets will play a doubleheader today after their game was postponed on Monday. Javier Assad will take the ball in game one for the Cubs against Nolan McLean at 1:10 EST. While Shota Imanaga will take the ball in the nightcap against Sean Manaea for the Mets. Before the games today, the Chicago Cubs placed Cabrera and Ben Brown on the Injured list.

Edward Cabrera

Edward Cabrera suffered an injury in last night’s game. As a result, the Chicago Cubs have sent him to the 15-day injured list today. He will have imaging done today to see how bad the injury truly is. The first report is the left hamstring and adductor strain. Cabrera has a 5-4 record with a 5.10 ERA through 14 starts this year. Cabrera was the prize addition to the rotation this winter in a trade with the Marlins. The Marlins sent Cabrera to Chicago in exchange for Owen Caissie, Christian Hernandez, and Edgardo De Leon.

Vince Velasquez

The Chicago Cubs have recalled Vince Velasquez in a corresponding move to fill Cabrera’s spot. He has pitched in one game for the Cubs this year. Velasquez pitched 2.1 innings, giving up one hit and striking out one. He has made six starts for the Iowa Cubs this year with a 1-1 record and a 6.15 ERA.

Ben Brown

The Chicago Cubs have placed Ben Brown on the 15-day injured list with a neck strain retroactive to June 21st. Add Ben Brown to the list of injured starters. Brown has been terrific for the Cubs this season. He has pitched in 20 games and made eight starts for the Cubs this year. Brown has a 4-2 record with a 1.85 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and 65 strikeouts through 68 innings pitched.

Gavin Hollowell

The Cubs have recalled Gavin Hollowell from Triple-A today. Hollowell has pitched in three games this season for the Cubs with a 4.91 ERA and a 2.18 WHIP.

Tyler Ferguson

The Cubs have recalled Tyler Ferguson from the Iowa Cubs today. Ferguson has pitched in two games this season with a 16.88 ERA and a .63 WHIP.

Eduarniel Nunez

The Cubs have designated Eduarniel Nunez for assignment today. Nunez never made it past the Arizona Complex League for the Cubs after being claimed off waivers on June 8th.
