Boston Red Sox Roster Moves

Red Sox Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Boston Red Sox yesterday played the Texas Rangers in an exhibition game, they won the game 9-2 and it was Garrett Whitlock’s final start before the regular season he looked solid going six innings and giving up one run but it was unearned on three hits; he walked one and struck out six. Today they play the final exhibition game before it’s for real against the Rangers again with the Red Sox eighth-ranked prospect by ITD Richard Fitts making the start, he pitched in the Spring Breakout game earlier this spring going three innings giving up two runs on two hits; he walked one and struck out three. Last night during the game the Red Sox made an interesting move sending one of their bullpen arms to Triple-A Worcester

Red Sox Roster Moves By The Numbers

LHP – Brennan Bernadino

Bernadino last season joined the Red Sox on April 16 when they claimed him off waivers from the Seattle Mariners. Last season he made 55 appearances with six of them coming as a spot starter going 2-1 with a 3.20 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP, and 58 strikeouts in 50.2 innings. This spring he made seven appearances going 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA, a 0.75 WHIP, and five strikeouts in 6.2 innings.

Wrap Up

Bernadino being sent down is an interesting move because it leaves the Red Sox with only one left-handed pitcher on the roster, all five starters are right-handed and the only other lefty is Joely Rodriguez. The bullpen to start the year will include Chase Anderson, Justin Slaten, Greg Weissert, Rodriguez, Isaiah Campbell, Josh Winckoski, Chris Martin, and Kenley Jansen. Bernadino will likely be called back up at some point this season but to go into the 2024 season with only one left-handed pitcher is an interesting move and it makes you wonder if could there be a move coming.
