Red Sox News & Notes 3/10

Last night, The Boston Red Sox took on the Tampa Bay Rays in the MLB World Tour in the Dominican Republic. The Red Sox came out on top 4-0. The two teams will play again today at 1:05 PM EST. The Red Sox will have Garrett Whitlock on the mound making his fourth start of the spring. He is 2-0 with a 4.50 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP, and ten strikeouts in eight innings of work. The lineup for today is:

Kutter Crawford

Crawford took the ball yesterday making his third start. He went three innings giving up two hits, he didn’t allow a run; he didn’t issue a walk and struck out two. This spring in his three starts he is 1-0 with a 1.13 ERA, a. 0.88 WHIP, and seven strikeouts in eight innings. Crawford is expected to be the third starter when the season starts 

Chris Martin

Martin was supposed to throw a live BP yesterday but he left after two warm-up pitches due to groin tightness. It was precautionary, hopefully, it stays that way with injuries starting to pop up for the Red Sox. 

Ceddanne Rafaela 

Rafaela is again forcing his way into the Red Sox starting lineup on opening day as the starting center fielder. In 11 games he is hitting .240 with a .785 OPS; he has two doubles, one home run, four RBI, two runs scored, four walks, and two stolen bases. Yesterday he went 1-3 with two RBI and a double. 

Josh Winckowski

Winckowski has been a name to watch in the competition for the four and five spots in the rotation. Yesterday he went three innings, he didn’t give up a run on two hits; he didn’t walk anyone and struck out one. This spring in three appearances two of which were starts, he is 0-0 with a 1.17 ERA, a 0.65 WHIP, and four strikeouts in 7.2 innings. 

Luis Guerrero 

Guerrero has been a name to watch this spring. He pitched yesterday going one inning, he didn’t allow a run or a hit, he walked one, and didn’t strike anyone out. In five games this spring he is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA, a 0.95 WHIP, and six strikeouts in 6.1 innings.
