Boston Red Sox Lose Another Player To Injury

The Boston Red Sox will start a two-game series against the Atlanta Braves tonight at Fenway Park and they will have Kutter Crawford on the mound facing off against Max Fried for the Braves. The Red Sox are coming off a series split with the Detroit Tigers, a series the Red Sox should have won. Before today’s first pitch, Alex Cora announced that Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu would be heading to the injured list with a knee injury that he suffered in Sunday’s loss when he was walking down the stairs on the dugout; he would finish the game but apparently, it’s bad enough that he will need to go see a specialist. This Red Sox team has been plagued with injuries in 2024 having lost Trevor Story, Lucas Giolito, and Garrett Whitlock for the season, as well as Vaughn Grissom, Romy Gonzalez, and Triston Casas who are now on the injured list.

Wilyer Abreu By The Numbers

Abreu was acquired by the Red Sox in 2022 in the trade that sent Christian Vazquez to the Houston Astros. Abreu would make his big league debut in 2023 with the Red Sox and he finished the season hitting .316 with a 862 OPS; he had six doubles, two home runs, 14 RBI, ten runs scored, three stolen bases, and nine walks in 28 games. In 2024 which would be his official rookie campaign he’s been a key component to the Red Sox lineup, through 53 games he was hitting .272 with a .829 OPS; he has 14 doubles, two triples, six home runs, 22 RBI, 26 runs scored, seven stolen bases and 19 walks. This is a tough loss to a Red Sox lineup that desperately needs to get going.

Wrap Up:

With Abreu out the lineup for tonight will be

CF – Jarren Duran
LF – Rob Refsnyder
C – Connor Wong
3B – Rafael Devers
2B -Jamie Westbrook
DH – Garrett Cooper
RF – Bobby Dalbec
1B – Dominic Smith
SS – Ceddanne Rafaela
