Blue Jays Double-A Affiliate Shutouts Nationals Double-A Affiliate 

Today the Toronto Blue Jays Double-A affiliate the New Hampshire Fisher Cats played the second game of their six games this week against the Washington Nationals Double-A affiliate the Harrisburg Senators. Over the weekend the Nationals took two of three from the Blue Jays, and to start the week the Senators beat the Fisher Cats last night 7-5, today the Fisher Cats flipped the script winning 4-0 behind some brilliant pitching and timely hitting. 

Blue Jays & Nationals Top Prospects

The Blue Jays have two top prospects in their system that played today Josh Kasevich who is ranked as Toronto’s seventh prospect by ITD, went 0-4 with a strikeout but did turn a beautiful double play defensively in the top of the sixth. The other prospect was Alex De Jesus who is the 23rd prospect in the Blue Jays system according to MLB Pipeline and he went 1-4 with a run and a strikeout. 

The Nationals have five prospects that played in this game all hit 1-5 in the order starting with Dylan Crews who hit third and is ranked the top prospect in the Nationals system and the fourth overall prospect by ITD, he struggled today going 0-3 with a walk and three strikeouts. Brady House hit fourth and he is the third-ranked Nationals prospect and the 41st overall prospect by ITD, he went 0-2 with two walks. Robert Hassell III is the Nationals sixth-ranked prospect by ITD and he hit leadoff, having a solid day going 2-3 with a walk. Yohandy Morales is the Nationals seventh-ranked prospect by ITD and he hit fifth going 0-3 with a walk. Finally, Andrew Pinckney who is ranked as the 17th overall prospect in the Nationals system by MLB Pipeline hit second going 0-4 with three strikeouts. 

Fisher Cats vs. Senators 

The Fisher Cats had Devereaux Harrison on the mound making his sixth start of the season, he went four shutout innings, allowing two hits; he walked four and struck out eight tying a career-high. The Senators countered with Lucas Knowles who went three innings giving up two runs on five hits; he walked one and struck out four. 

The Fisher Cats got the scoring started in the bottom half of the second when first baseman Rainer Nunez singled home two runs to make it 2-0 Fisher Cats after two. In the bottom of the sixth the Fisher Cats tacked on a run with a solo home run by catcher Zach Britton off of Samuel Reyes who went three innings and that home run was the only hit and run he allowed; he did walk one and struck out three; the home run made it 3-0 New Hampshire. In the bottom of the seventh, the Fisher Cats made it 4-0 with a Devonte Brown RBI single off of Ty Tice who went the one inning allowing the one run on one hit; he walked one and struck out one. In the eighth the Senators brought in a 6 foot 7 245 lbs right-handed pitcher in Orlando Ribalta who looked electric in his lone inning he didn’t allow a run on one hit; he didn’t issue a walk and struck out one. 

The Fisher Cats used two relievers after Harrison using Abdiel Mendoza who went three innings and looked a little wild at first but he ended up giving up just one hit, walking two and striking out three to keep the shutout intact and he picked up the win. In the eighth and ninth it was Eric Pardinho and he didn’t allow a hit or a run or a walk and he struck out two to shut the door. 

Next Up:

These two teams will play again tomorrow night at 6:35 PM EST at Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester, NH. The Senators haven’t announced a starter yet while the Fisher Cats will send the Blue Jays eighth-ranked prospect by ITD LHP Adam Macko who is 0-1 in five starts with a 4.70 ERA, a 1.39 WHIP, and 25 strikeouts in three innings.
