The inaugural Spring Breakout will kick off today with the highly anticipated matchup between the Baltimore Orioles and the Pittsburgh Pirates, the game is being played at the Pirates spring training home in Bradenton, Florida. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM and the game can be seen on MLB Network, MLB.TV, MLB.com, and ESPN+.

Baltimore Orioles

Jackson Holliday

Holliday is ranked as the #1 prospect in ITD’s Top 100. Holliday this spring has played in 11 games and is hitting .294 with a .873 OPS. Last season he played at Single-A Delmarva, High-A Aberdeen, Double-A Bowie, and Triple-A Norfolk, in 125 games he hit .323 with a .941 OPS; he had 30 doubles, nine triples, 12 home runs, 75 RBI, 113 runs scored, 24 stolen bases, and 101 walks.

Samuel Basallo

Basallo is ranked as the #22 prospect in ITD’s Top 100. Basallo has only played in three games and he is hitting .250 with a .500 OPS. Last season he played at Single-A Delmarva, High-A Aberdeen, and Double-A Bowie, and in 114 games he hit .313 with a .953 OPS; he had 26 doubles, seven triples, 20 home runs, 86 RBI, 75 runs scored, 12 stolen bases, and 61 walks.

Coby Mayo

Mayo is ranked as the #30 prospect in ITD’s Top 100. Mayo this spring has played in 16 games and is hitting .313 with a .999 OPS. Last season, he played at Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk, and in 140 games he hit .290 with a .974 OPS; he had 45 doubles, three triples, 29 home runs, 99 RBI, 84 runs scored, five stolen bases, and 93 walks.

Enrique Bradfield

Bradfield is ranked as the #93 prospect in ITD’s Top 100. Bradfield in six games is hitting .100 with a .200 OPS. Last season he played at Vanderbilt and in 62 games he hit .279 with a .839 OPS; he had 13 doubles, two triples, six home runs, 34 RBI, 69 runs scored, 37 stolen bases, and 45 walks. With the Orioles, he played for their rookie league team, Single-A Delmarva, and High-A Aberdeen, and in 25 games he hit .291 with a .802 OPS; he had three doubles, six RBI, 22 runs scored, 25 stolen bases, and 26 walks.

Pittsburgh Pirates

Paul Skenes

Skenes is ranked as the #2 prospect in ITD’s Top 100. Skenes this spring has pitched in two games, one as a start and he has a 3.00 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP, and three strikeouts in three innings. Skenes at LSU last season made 19 starts going 13-2 with a 1.69 ERA, a 0.75 WHIP, and 209 strikeouts in 122.2 innings. The Pirates drafted him first overall, and he pitched for their rookie league team, Single-A Bradenton, and Double-A Altoona in five starts he posted a 5.40 ERA, a 1.05 WHIP, and ten strikeouts in 6.2 innings

Termarr Johnson

Johnson is ranked as the #35 prospect in ITD’s Top 100. This spring in 14 games he has hit .368 with a 1.166 OPS. Last season, he played at Single-A Bradenton and High-A Greensboro, and in 105 games he hit .244 with a .860 OPS; he had 12 doubles, one triple, 18 home runs, 59 RBI, 83 runs scored, ten stolen bases, and 101 walks.

Anthony Solometo

Solometo is ranked the #79 prospect in ITD’s Top 100. It has been reported that Solometo won’t pitch tonight and it’s not injury related. He has appeared in one game this spring going one inning and he didn’t allow a run, a hit, or a walk and he recorded one strikeout. Last season he pitched at High-A Greensboro and Double-A Altoona and in 24 games he went 4-7 with a 3.26 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP, and 118 strikeouts in 110.1 innings.

Bubba Chandler

Chandler is ranked the #94 prospect in ITD’s Top 100. This spring he has pitched in one game going one inning, he didn’t give up a run, a walk, a hit, or record a strikeout. Last season he pitched at High-A Greensboro and Double-A Altoona and in 25 starts he went 10-4 with a 4.54 ERA, a 1.44 WHIP, and 128 strikeouts in 111 innings.

What To Watch:

The rematch of the Paul Skenes vs. Jackson Holliday the #1 overall prospect vs. the #2 overall prospect and the last two number one overall picks. The first meeting went to Skenes back on February 29th.

Wrap-Up: Spring Breakout

The Spring Breakout is a fantastic idea by MLB and gives fans a chance to see the future players of their teams that they may not normally be able to see and tonight’s matchup is a great way to kick off the action. This Orioles vs. Pirates game will be a must-watch TV.
