Two St. Louis Cardinals Named to Futures Game

The St. Louis Cardinals will have two players from their minor league system taking part in the 2024 Futures Game which will be played on July 13th at 4:10 PM EST. The two representatives for the Cardinals are Tink Hence who is the Cardinals top-ranked prospect and Quinn Mathews.

RHP – Tink Hence

Hence is the 45th overall ranked prospect by ITD. He was drafted by the Cardinals with the 63rd overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft. In his four minor league seasons he’s made 59 appearances with 52 of those coming as starts, he is 8-10 with a 3.50 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP, and 267 strikeouts in 211 innings. This season at Double-A Springfield he’s made 12 starts going 4-2 with a 3.29 ERA (4th in Texas League), a 1.13 WHIP (T-5th in Texas League), and 73 strikeouts (13th in Texas League) in 54.2 innings.

LHP – Quinn Mathews

Mathews was drafted by the Cardinals with the 122nd overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft. He has burst onto the scene and will be making his way onto the ITD Top 100 in no time with the success he’s had. This is his first season pitching in the Cardinals system and he’s jumped through three levels making 14 starts going 6-2 with a 2.03 ERA, a 0.78 WHIP, and 113 strikeouts in 79.2 innings. At Double-A Springfield he’s made one start going 5.1 innings giving up two runs, none earned on one hit; he walked three and struck out three.
