Two Athletics Named 2025 All Stars

Major League Baseball has announced the starters for the 2025 All-Star Game, Tuesday, July 15, at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia. The 95th MLB All-Star Game will, as per usual, feature at least one player from each team. However, winning the fan vote and being named a starter at your respective position grants an extra level of prestige and puts you in the upper echelon of baseball.

Rarer still is to be a rookie All-Star, let alone a rookie starting the All-Star Game. There have been only 62 such occurrences over the 90+ year history of the Midsummer Classic. That’s less than one every year. And yet, Athletics rookie Jacob Wilson is starting at shortstop for the AL in the 2025 ASG.

Wilson currently ranks 2nd in the MLB with a .335 behind only Aaron Judge’s .360 mark. This alone marks that Wilson is having an All-Star caliber season, but couple that with only 6 errors across 84 games at shortstop and the result is a consensus All-Star.

The Athletics’ 2nd All-Star, picked by manager Aaron Boone, is the A’s DH Brent Rooker. Currently tied for eighth in the AL in home runs with 19. The DH also does more than just the longball.  Entering Wednesday, the 30-year-old righty ranked twelfth in the AL in slugging percentage and tied for eighteenth in doubles.

Rooker, the Athletics former waiver claim, will join Wilson for the festivities in Atlanta, marking what will be both the rookie’s and the vet’s first career All Star appearance.
