The Boston Red Sox finished the month of July with the third-best record in all of baseball, going 15-8; they put up 124 runs in 23 games for an average of 5.39 runs per game. The Red Sox posted a .336 BABIP, a wRC+ of 118, and a .815 OPS. The July, they had allowed them to be in the Wild Card race being 2.5 games back of the Blue Jays for the final spot. A big reason they had such a successful month was their Rookie first baseman Triston Casas, and the league noticed that as he was named American League Rookie of the Month for July. The Red Sox had four players in July in the top 25 in OPS, four in the top 20 in batting average, and four in the top 25 in wRC+. Casas in July slashed .348/.442/.758 and an OPS of 1.199; he had four doubles, a triple, seven home runs, 13 RBI, 16 runs scored, and 11 walks. Among the league in July, Casas’ average was 12th best, his OBP was sixth best, and his Slugging and OPS were the best in July; he finished tied for ninth in home runs and 30th in runs scored. With the July he had, he has put himself in the talks as possibly winning Rookie of the Year; according to draft kings Casas’ has the fourth best odds to win Rookie of the Year, an award that looked like Josh Jung from the Texas Rangers had wrapped up but now, Gunnar Henderson from the Baltimore Orioles, Casas’ and his Red Sox teammate Masataka Yoshida have all entered the conversation and with two month’s left to season any of the four can make a strong case to win the award by season’s end.
