Toronto Blue Jays Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Toronto Blue Jays yesterday beat the Yankees 8-1. Today they take on the Pittsburgh Pirates with Chris Bassitt making his fourth appearance which is also his third start. He is 0-1 with a 0.86 WHIP and five strikeouts in 9.1 innings. Yesterday they optioned/reassigned the following player to the minors. 

  • INF Addison Barger optioned to Triple-A Buffalo 
  • INF Orelvis Martinez optioned to Triple-A Buffalo
  • RHP Yosver Zulueta optioned to Triple-A Buffalo
  • OF Steward Berroa reassigned to Minor League camp 

Blue Jays Roster Moves By The Numbers

Addison Barger 

Barger this spring has played in seven games and hit .357 with a .929 OPS; he had one double, three runs scored, and four walks. Last season he played across three levels with the Blue Jays rookie league team, Single-A Dunedin, and Triple-A Buffalo. In 94 games he slashed .247/.353/.392 with a .745 OPS; he had 25 doubles, nine home runs, 47 RBI, and 56 runs scored 

Orelvis Martinez 

Martinez is the Blue Jays second-ranked prospect and is ranked the 86th overall prospect by ITD. This spring he played in ten games hitting .188 with a .566 OPS; he had one double, two RBI, and one run scored. In 125 games between Double-A New Hampshire and Triple-A Buffalo, he slashed .243/.340/.496 with a .835 OPS; he had 25 doubles, two triples, 28 home runs, 94 RBI, and 70 runs scored. 

Yosver Zulueta 

Zulueta this spring has made five appearances going 0-1 with a 10.80 ERA, 2.20 WHIP, and two strikeouts in five innings. Last season he pitched at Triple-A Buffalo and he made 45 appearances with seven coming as starts. He went 4-4 with a 4.50 ERA, a 1.53 WHIP, and 73 strikeouts in 64 innings. 

Steward Berroa

Berroa in ten games hit .000 with a .214 OPS; he had three walks and two stolen bases. Last season he played with Triple-A Buffalo and Double-A New Hampshire playing in 125 games and he hit .258 with a .758 OPS; he had 24 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 43 RBI, and 72 runs scored.
